Do you suffer from diarrhoea, constipation or bloating? Do you suspect you may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or have you been diagnosed with IBS?
IBS is a functional bowel disorder, which means that the bowel looks normal but does not function properly. IBS can cause pain and discomfort in the abdominal area as well as having an extremely negative impact on your quality of life – this doesn't have to be the case, though.
Learn how to manage your IBS for good by booking in for a consultation with our expertly qualified Dietitians.
What should you do if you think you have IBS?
It is a good idea to check in with your GP for medical tests to confirm your suspected diagnosis, as many digestive disorders have similar symptoms. This may be via a simple blood test or further investigation may be needed. We recommend that you rule out coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease before visiting us.
Booking an appointment with a Dietitian will be your next step. Our team of Dietitians can help you to optimise your diet and lifestyle so that you can overcome your digestive symptoms for good.
How We Can Help
During your initial consultation, your Dietitian will assess your symptoms and confirm a potential diagnosis of IBS. We will identify triggers in your diet and lifestyle and equip you with the knowledge and skills to manage your IBS for good.
Your Dietitian will also carry out a complete nutritional assessment to regarding your diet history and body composition analysis (including weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat percentage, lean body mass, waist-to-hip measurement and more).
Depending on your symptoms, a FODMAP diet may be the best and most effective treatment option for you. This will involve following a special diet for a set period of time to relieve symptoms of IBS.
You will then commence a phase of food reintroduction where food groups will be tested to determine which foods trigger your symptoms. The FODMAPs diet has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective as a treatment option for IBS.
Your Dietitian will be able to determine if the FODMAPs programme is the right step for you after your initial consultation. Further tests might need to be carried out before you can embark on this plan.
